Miguel Castro Leñero (Mexico City, 1956). One of the leading exponents of Mexican contemporary art in the world, with exhibitions in New York, Austria and Brazil. He studied at the National School of Painting and Sculpture “La Esmeralda”. Later he entered the engraving workshop of the Centro de Investigación y Experimentación Plástica del INBA. Throughout his artistic career he has made several individual exhibitions and has received several awards and recognitions. Tireless reader, Castro Leñero obtains from his imagination many of the themes of his painting, where texture is his particular stamp. He represents in his own way every day elements: animals, clouds, buildings, houses, rivers, showing their origins and representing them in their most elementary form.

He has been distinguished with important prizes like: Salón Nacional Artes Plásticas acquisition Prize (1981). First Painting Biennial Award, Rufino Tamayo in Oaxaca, Oax. (1982). First prize acquisition II Encuentro Arte Joven Aguascalientes, Ags. (1982). The Museum of Modern Art in Mexico City organizes an individual exhibition “Paisaje Dividido” (1986). Acquisition Award at the Eco Art International in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (1992).
